Akvaplan-niva at the Polar Environmental Centre in Tromso, Norway seeks
a candidate to work as part of a dynamic research team carrying out a
broad array of studies on the biological effects of petroleum-related
compounds for cold-water organisms. The position begins 1 September 2007
and will last for two years with the possibility for extension.
Akvaplan-niva's Environment and Petroleum Research Group currently
focuses on experimental ecotoxicology and biomonitoring tools, including
biomarkers, sympagic, benthic, and pelagic arctic species, and food web
interactions and petroleum ecotoxicology.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD and publications in a topic related
to petroleum ecotoxicology and the marine environment. Knowledge in
biochemistry and analytical skills is necessary, including a good
understanding of analytical instrumentation. Responsibilities will
include conducting complementary research within the framework of
ongoing projects, developing new research directions, providing guidance
and support for PhD students, furthering development of analytical and
experimental laboratory facilities, and participation in a variety of
field opportunities in Svalbard.

Akvaplan-niva is part of the Norwegian Institute for Water Research
(NIVA) and the candidate will work with NIVA's ecotoxicology and risk
assessment section at the Oslo Center for Interdisciplinary
Environmental and Social Research (CIENS). The candidate will also be
affiliated with the ARCTOS network.
