Applications are being accepted from undergraduate students and recent
graduates for two summer fieldwork positions at Toolik Field Station in
northern Alaska. One position will start in late May and end in
mid-August. The other position will begin in late June and end in
mid-September.

The overall objective of the research program is to understand the
ecosystem and global consequences of potential future changes in arctic
vegetation. Successful applicants will assist with fieldwork in the
tussock tundra site and laboratory work consisting of tasks such as
plant sorting and data entry. In addition, successful applicants will
attend weekly seminars on the research at the station, develop their own
individual research projects on a topic related to the program and their
own interests, and present their work at an informal symposium at Toolik
Field Station.

Applicants should have an academic background in plant ecology, botany,
ecosystem ecology, statistics, or computer science. Experience with
field or laboratory work, data analysis, and working in a remote field
site is preferred. Applicants should have skills in plant
identification, data collecting and recording, data manipulation in
Excel, and data analysis and must be willing to work in the field,
occasionally under adverse weather conditions. Competent, careful,
emotionally mature, and enthusiastic applicants are desired. Women and
minorities are encouraged to apply. The successful candidates will be
required to present a valid U.S. drivers license and social security
card. Each position comes with a stipend of $394 per week.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens who are currently undergraduate
students or have graduated since December 2006. Applications must
