The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) and Kamchatka State University
(KSU) announce the International Volcanological Field School 2007, two
field courses, each lasting two weeks, for undergraduate and graduate
students to perform field studies of sub-Arctic, subduction zone
volcanism.

The first field course explores the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes and
neighboring volcanoes in Katmai National Park, Alaska on 7-21 June 2007.
The second field course visits Gorely and Mutnovsky Volcanoes in
Kamchatka on approximately 23 July-5 August 2007. Students may choose to
enroll in one or both courses and can earn three undergraduate or
graduate credits at UAF for participating.

Students explore and discuss the full range of phenomena that
constitutes volcanoes, using some of the best examples in the world. The
course is co-taught at both the undergraduate and graduate level by John
Eichelberger (UAF) and Dmitry Melnikov (KSU), as well as by guest
scientists from Russia, the U.S., and Japan.
