The Prince William Sound Science Center (PWSSC) and Ecotrust are
partners in developing a comprehensive Geographic Information Systems
(GIS) program to serve the Copper River watershed and Prince William
Sound regions in Alaska and are hiring a GIS Analyst for this program.

The successful candidate will further develop the Copper River Knowledge
System, an electronic information catalog that focuses on salmon and
their habitat, habitat management, fisheries, community economies,
research and monitoring, and resource development in the Copper River
region. The project involves the collection, collation, and integration
of data to make the best available information publicly accessible for
increasing effectiveness of salmon conservation projects, policy reform,
and sustainable management. The Copper River Knowledge System website is
available at:

In the first year of a three-year plan, the GIS Analyst will focus on
the Copper River region and begin to expand the Knowledge System to
encompass the Prince William Sound region. The GIS Analyst will develop
new avenues to acquire information and data, synthesize information,
identify data gaps, integrate historic data, and work with tribal
communities to incorporate Traditional Ecological Knowledge. The goal is
to create innovative ways to spatially display complicated information
on salmon, communities, and other regional resources.

The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience in GIS
systems and analysis, cartography, and project development. A degree in
GIS, biology, or natural resources is necessary and an advanced degree
is an advantage. The candidate will have excellent and enthusiastic
research skills, friendly and fearless telephone interview abilities,
will recognize the value(s) of different information types and relevance
to task, and have the ability to focus on completion and meet firm
deadlines.

The full-time position is based in Cordova, Alaska. Some travel is
required. Salary is competitive, commensurate with qualifications and
experience, and includes an excellent benefit package with medical
insurance and a pension plan.
