"Thin Ice: Inuit Traditions within a Changing Environment" is a catalog
for an exhibition of the same name at the Hood Museum of Art at
Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire, open through 13 May 2007. The
book includes contributions from William Fitzhugh, Aqqaluk Lynge, and
Kesler Woodward, and an introduction by Igor Krupnik, Ross Virginia, and
Ken Yalowitz.
Climate change is a pressing and much debated phenomenon of our time.
Thin Ice accompanies an important exhibition that explores the human
dimensions of climate change in the Inuit concept and perception of
arctic climate as part of their culture. The exhibition presents objects
from the Hood Museum's permanent collection that are deeply embedded in
the social and spiritual fabric of Inuit society - boat miniatures,
harpoons, masks, clothing, prints, canoes, and photographs - while
addressing the global debate around climate change.
