The University of New Hampshire seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate
with expertise in biogeochemical modeling. The successful candidate will
join a collaborative project involving the University of New Hampshire
(UNH), University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), and Lehigh
University (Lehigh), to evaluate and model coupled carbon-water dynamics
and projections of future coupled carbon-water dynamics. Funded by the
National Science Foundation, the project involves paleo-ecology and
paleo-climate data collection and data analysis conducted at UCLA and
Lehigh.

Responsibilities of the position include:
- development, parameterization, testing, and application of a
spatially-distributed model of coupled carbon and water dynamics in
northern peatlands through the Holocene;
- performing model-data analysis in collaboration with paleo-research
groups at UCLA and Lehigh; and
- communicating results in presentations at national and international
meetings and in peer-reviewed publications. Modeling work will be done
in close collaboration with the Department of Geography at McGill
University.

Candidates must hold a PhD in atmospheric science, Earth system science,
ecology, environmental science, physical geography, or another relevant
field, and must have experience in one or more of the following areas:
peatland ecology, paleo-ecology/paleo-climatology, ecosystem dynamics,
hydrology, geo-spatial data analysis and modeling, and ecological and/or
biogeochemical modeling. Candidates should have strong quantitative and
programming skills (e.g., C, MATLAB). The ability to work on a
collaborative, interdisciplinary team is important. The position is
available immediately and funded for at least two years with renewal on
an annual basis.

The position is in the UNH Complex Systems Research Center at the
Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans, and Space, a major
international research center with more than 200 staff, students, and
faculty. UNH is located in Durham, New Hampshire.

Candidates should submit a detailed curriculum vitae, description of
past work and research interests, and contact information for three
references to:

Applications will be reviewed as they are received and the position will
remain open until filled. UNH is an equal opportunity educator and
