A town hall meeting on Bering Ecosystem Study (BEST) Research and
Funding Plans will be held on Wednesday, 7 February 2007, in Sante Fe,
New Mexico in conjunction with the American Society of Limnology and
Oceanography 2007 Aquatic Sciences Meeting.

The town hall meeting will include information on BEST, a new program
sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to study the
productive and ecologically diverse Bering Sea. Five proposals have been
funded in response to a September 2005 NSF Program Solicitation and a
second solicitation with a closing date of Thursday, 15 March 2007 has
been published. The town hall meeting provides information to interested
scientists about funded projects and additional funding opportunities
through the second solicitation. The meeting will consist of brief
introductory presentations on recent changes in the Bering Sea and on
the scope of the funded proposals, to be followed by an open question
and answer session. A representative of the NSF Office of Polar
Programs, Division of Arctic Sciences has been invited to attend to
provide background on the agency's expectations for responses to the
BEST solicitation.
