The Norwegian Polar Institute (NPI) invites applications for a four-year
postdoctoral position in paleoceanography.

Financed by the Norwegian Research Council, this marine diatom
specialist position is part of the interdisciplinary NPI Polar Climate
Program, which studies the climate history of the polar oceans, and
ocean-atmosphere processes and interactions. The position will
contribute to the Enhanced Palaeoreconstruction and Integrated Climate
Analysis through Marine and Ice Core Studies (EPICA-MIS) project and
SciencePub, a Norwegian IPY-endorsed project that includes analysis of
quantitative climate reconstructions using diatoms from the Southern
Ocean and the high-latitude North Atlantic.

Candidates must have a background in marine geology or
micropaleontology, special expertise in marine diatoms, and should
submit documentation of previous work related to diatom biostratigraphy
and/or paleoceanography. NPI seeks a candidate with a well-developed
professional network, a strong commitment to collaborative problem
solving, the ability to work independently and be flexible, and a
positive attitude. Female candidates are encouraged to apply. The
successful candidate should be able to begin the position on 1 April
2007.

Applications should include a CV, references, list of publications, and
details of the candidate's relevant qualifications and experience, and
should be submitted electronically by Wednesday, 31 January 2007, at
http://jobb.jobbnorge.no/visstilling2.aspx?stillid=35299&lang=NO.

NPI is Norway's main institution for polar environmental research and
advisory services, environmental monitoring, and mapping and expeditions
to the polar regions. NPI reports to Norway's Ministry of the
Environment and is a liaison and service body for national and
international polar research. Approximately 115 persons are employed at
NPI in Tromso, Svalbard, and Dronning Maud Land.
