Permafrost Courses in Russia

As part of International Permafrost Association International Polar Year
activities, Moscow State University is hosting a number of field
courses. Two courses are offered in summer 2007:

(1) Permafrost and Periglacial Geomorphology of Western Siberia and
Western Taymyr, Einsey River

This course is planned for 20 July - 5 August 2007. It is aimed
primarily for PhD and MS students and teachers interested in permafrost
and periglacial geomorphology, and other disciplines related to ecology
of the North. The course will be given aboard a ship with frequent
stops. Lectures by senior scientists, field studies, and posters will be
in English. The cost of the field course will depend on the total number
of students that participate, however, it is estimated to be between
$2,500 and $5,000 USD.

(2) Dynamics of Cryogenic Processes and Technogenic and Environmental
Permafrost Observatories, West Siberia

This course is planned for 5-26 July 2007. It is aimed primarily for PhD
and MS students and teachers interested in permafrost and periglacial
geomorphology, industrial development, and other disciplines related to
ecology of the North. The course will consist of visits to field sites
in West Siberia that are influenced by oil and gas development. Lectures
by senior scientists, field studies, and posters will be in English.
Again, cost depends on the number of students that participate, however,
it is estimated to be $2,000 USD.
