The Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics Georges Lemaitre at the
Universite Catholique de Louvain (UCL) invites applications for a
postdoctoral research position in sea-ice modeling.
The position involves optimization of the new version of the Louvain-
la-Neuve sea-ice model (LIM) using data assimilation techniques. This
work will be done in close collaboration with the Centre for Systems
Engineering and Applied Mechanics of UCL as part of the research project
"second-generation model of the ice-ocean system."
The position is available immediately and will last two years.
Applicants should have a recent Ph.D. in meteorology, oceanography,
marine glaciology, or a related discipline. A strong working knowledge
of assimilation techniques, especially Kalman filters, is required.

The Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics Georges Lemaitre, located in
Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, conducts research in climate variability in
polar regions, past climate changes, human impacts on climate, regional
climate and atmospheric processes, lakes and shallow seas, and
development of modeling tools. Research in astronomy-geophysics and on
spatial plasmas is done in collaboration with the Royal Observatory of
Belgium and the Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy.
