The Young Explorers Grants Program, a new initiative of the National
Geographic Society, provides grants for young scientists and explorers.
Aimed at individuals ages 18 to 25, the program offers opportunities for
research, conservation, and exploration-related projects consistent with
National Geographic's existing grant programs, including the Committee
for Research and Exploration, Conservation Trust, and Expeditions
Council.

With support from Lindblad Expeditions, the program will award between
25 and 50 grants ranging from $2,000 to $5,000, in fields traditionally
supported by National Geographic, such as archaeology, wildlife biology,
natural history and conservation, underwater exploration, and adventure.

Applicants are not required to hold advanced degrees, however, a record
of prior experience as it pertains to the proposed project is necessary.
Funding is open to individuals of any nationality, and researchers
planning work in countries abroad should make great effort to include at
least one local collaborator as part of their team.

Applying for a Young Explorers Grant is a two-step process. Applicants
must first submit an online pre-application that includes a CV.
Candidates whose pre-applications are approved will then receive
instructions on completing a full application. The grant review
committee accepts pre-applications throughout the year and recommends
submission at least six to eight months prior to the project start date.
