Senior Engineer I

A position is available for a BS/MS-level senior staff associate in the
Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University. Candidates are
sought who work on the design, integration, and testing of remote
sensing systems for aircraft and ships. An engineer is sought to design
and build an airborne geophysical system from commercially available
components consisting of gravity, magnetics, laser altimeter, and
ice-penetrating radar systems of application in remote polar regions.
Duties of the position will be focused on system design, integration,
and remote field flight tests of the system.

Requirements include a BS or MS in mechanical or electrical engineering,
a good background in geophysics, and a minimum of five years related
experience. Applicants must demonstrate ability to carefully document
procedures. Comfort with research assignments in extreme polar
environments and at sea is highly preferred. Good command of written and
spoken English is required.
