The Arctic Graduate School (ARKTIS), coordinated by the Arctic Centre at
the University of Lapland, has five full-time research student positions
available, which are funded by the Ministry of Education from 2007-2010.

Research student positions are intended for graduate students with a
higher university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) who plan to
conduct their doctoral degree at a Finnish University in the disciplines
of the Arctic Graduate School. The positions will be located at the
Universities of Lapland, Oulu, and Helsinki.

The theme of the multidisciplinary Arctic Graduate School is "Social and
Environmental Impacts of Modernization and Global Change in the Arctic."
The research themes of the school deal with arctic and northern
questions, including:
- climate and environment;
- societies, cultures, livelihoods, and economy;
- wellbeing of local and indigenous people;
- mitigation and adaptation to the changes; and
- environmental and minority law.

Applications should include:
- letter of interest,
- curriculum vitae,
- publication list,
- research plan for doctoral thesis including a time schedule (maximum
of five pages),
- educational plan for a doctoral degree including a time schedule,
- list of the grants/scholarships for previous postgraduate studies,
- names and contact information of supervisors, and
- contact information for two people from whom the graduate school can
request a statement concerning qualifications if needed.

Applicants should also indicate which themes of the school she/he is
applying for and at which university doctoral studies would be
conducted. The applicant shall present her/his degree certificates if
selected. Please note that the application materials will not be
