The British Council and the Scottish Association for Marine Science
announce the availability of ten scholarships as part of the
International Networking for Young Scientists (INYS) program to attend
the Arctic Frontiers conference in Tromso, Norway, from 21-29 January
2007. Applicants must be Ph.D. students or early-career postdoctoral
scientists based in the UK working in arctic marine science,
environmental change, or another scientific discipline with a northern
focus.

The Arctic Frontiers conference seeks a pan-arctic perspective to
promote sustainable levels of human activity based on scientific
knowledge and cultural sensitivity. The conference is comprised of two
parts: a two-day session on policy development followed by a four-day
scientific meeting. A three-day seminar for doctoral students is being
convened at the close of the conference.

The INYS program brings together young researchers from the UK and other
countries to make new contacts, create collaborative links, and promote
the creative, face-to-face exchange of ideas in conference settings.

The INYS scholarships include funding for travel from the UK to Tromso,
conference registration, accommodation, and per diem. Awardees will be
required to present their research in a poster format at the conference.

Applicants must submit a scholarship application and letter of
recommendation from a senior scientist by Wednesday, 1 November 2006, to:
Dr. Finlo Cottier
E-mail: fcott [at] sams.ac.uk
