Dear Colleagues,

I will testify before the Subcommittee on Research of the U.S. House of
Representatives Committee on Science regarding the International Polar Year
on Wednesday, 20 September 2006. I have been asked to address two
questions:
1. What has been learned from polar research and IPY's in the past and what
do we hope to learn during this IPY?
2. What are the most critical unanswered questions that you hope to resolve
with the research conducted during the IPY and what are the societal
benefits of this research?

I would greatly appreciate any and all feedback on this topic from the
arctic community to include in my written testimony and five-minute oral
summary of highlights. All comments must be received by Thursday, 14
September 2006.

Sincerely,

Kelly Falkner
