There is a Post Doctoral opportunity at the Centre of Ships and Offshore
Structures (CeSOS) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology
focusing on ship-ice interaction and determination of extreme ship
loading in arctic conditions.
Prospective candidates should have completed a degree in Mechanical
Engineering, preferably in Naval Architecture. He/she should be able to
demonstrate a solid working knowledge of basic ship theory and ship
structure. A solid mathematical foundation is also an asset. The
candidate should be prepared to travel to arctic areas for studies of
ships in ice.
Research at CeSOS aims to develop fundamental knowledge about how ships
and other structures behave in the ocean environment, using analytical,
numerical, and experimental studies. This knowledge is vital, both now
and in the future, for the design of safe, cost effective, and
environmentally friendly structures, as well as in the planning and
execution of marine operations. CeSOS is starting a research program in
arctic shipping and the selected candidate will join the research group
in Arctic Marine Technology.
