Arctic Coastal Dynamics II (ACD II) is a joint project of the
International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) and the International
Permafrost Association (IPA). The overall objective is to improve
understanding of circum-arctic coastal dynamics as a function of
environmental forcing, coastal geology, and cryology and morphodynamic
behavior.
The 6th Arctic Coastal Dynamics (ACD) workshop will be held on 22-26
October 2006 and will be hosted by the Arctic Centre at the University
of Groningen. The workshop is entitled "Arctic Coastal Research
International Science Plan (ACRISP)." The first phase of the ACD project
was guided by a five-year science plan, which expired at the end of
2005. A central goal of this workshop will therefore be to identify the
key science questions for the second phase of the ACD project, within
the context of both the Second International Conference on Arctic
Research Planning (ICARP II) Coastal Working Group report and
International Polar Year (IPY) activities in the coastal margins cluster
(IPY Full Proposal #90). Additional goals include the development of a
template for coastal observatory monitoring within the context of IPA
activities for IPY and the integration of ACD activities with other
organizations.
