The U.S. Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL)
solicits applications for a glaciology/physical sciences position in
their Fairbanks, Alaska, office. This position is a partnership between
CRREL and the United States Geological Survey (USGS) in Alaska. The
candidate will work on projects ranging from glacier mass balance to
general geologic, permafrost, and/or hydrologic processes. Applicants
must be U.S. citizens.

This appointment is for a term position, not to exceed two years, with
the potential for extension up to a maximum of four years. Selectee will
be offered benefit options.

Major Duties:
The successful candidate will conduct scientific and engineering studies
in the areas of geologic site investigation, geophysical measurements,
and modeling in cold regions with a focus on permafrost and glaciers.
He/she will determine glacier mass balance at long-term research sites.
He/she will apply professional knowledge and experience in geophysics,
hydrology, remote sensing, and related (physical and chemical) sciences
to perform assigned research investigations. Specific areas of study
include environmental site characterization, remediation, and hydrologic
modeling. The successful candidate will assist senior researchers in
field and laboratory studies of geophysical sensing and modeling. Issues
studied are those in which limited previous work has been accomplished
and that necessitate developing an understanding of the fundamental
natural processes involved. Research is expected to result in
substantial changes to existing knowledge, practices, and/or technique
in the area of specialization.
