The Climate Impact Research Centre (CIRC), part of the Department of
Ecology and Environmental Science at Umea University in Sweden, has the
following positions available:

Post doc in Aquatic ecology (Reference Number 315-813-06)

The successful candidate is expected to collaborate on ongoing aquatic
projects at CIRC with a focus on alpine and sub-alpine aquatic
ecosystems. Applications are sought on any of the following topics: a)
characterization of organic carbon in clearwater and brownwater lakes,
b) respiration of organic carbon in different lake habitats, c)
zooplankton production, or d) pelagic food web dynamics.

Further information can be obtained from Dr. Jan Karlsson
(Jan.Karlsson [at] emg.umu.se).

Post doc in climate and vegetation impacts on dissolved organic carbon
(DOC) production and fluxes. (Reference Number 315-814-06)

The successful candidate will work with climate and vegetation impacts
on DOC dynamics in alpine and subalpine ecosystems. Experience in one of
the following fields is desirable: a) hydrological processes and
modeling of carbon fluxes, b) isotope geochemistry with focus on 13C,
15N, and 34S in organic matter, or c) carbon dynamics in soils.

Further information can be obtained from Docent Reiner Giesler
(Reiner.Giesler [at] emg.umu.se).

Post doc position in paleolimnology with a focus on climate change and
biogeochemical processes during the Holocene (Reference Number
315-815-06)

The successful candidate will work on climate change and the effects of
catchments development on lake ecosystems during the Holocene using lake
sediments. Previous experience in diatoms and isotope analysis,
multivariate statistics, paleolimnological research in boreal/arctic
lakes, and inorganic/organic chemistry is desirable. Further information
can be obtained from Dr. Peter Rosen (Peter.Rosen [at] emg.umu.se).

Post doc in plant recruitment processes in relation to climate change
(Reference Number 315-816-06)

The successful candidate will participate in ongoing research on
recruitment processes and invasibility and different vegetation types.
In addition, he/she will partly be responsible for an experiment in
reproduction, germination, and establishment processes along an
altitudinal gradient in the area. The results obtained during summer and
autumn should be processed and related to the climate gradient and
expected migration processes. Further information can be obtained from
Dr. Bente Graae (Bente.Graae [at] emg.umu.se).

Ph.D. position in terrestrial ecology focusing on biogeochemical
processes (Reference Number 313-812-06)

The successful candidate will work with production and fluxes of
dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in alpine and subalpine terrestrial
ecosystems. The aim of the project is to better understand how
vegetation and climate affects DOC dynamics. The project is part of the
on-going research at CIRC about the role of alloctonus carbon in aquatic
ecosystems. The research will include both field- and laboratory
studies. Previous work with DOC is an advantage.
