Centre interuniversitaire d'etudes et de recherches autochtones (CIÉRA)
of Université Laval, in partnership with the Canadian Circumpolar
Institute (CCI) of the University of Alberta in Edmonton and in
cooperation with other members of the IPSSAS network composed of
Ilisimatusarfik/The University of Greenland, the Department of
Eskimology and Arctic Studies of the University of Copenhagen, the
Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales (INALCO), and
the Alaska Native Language Center and Department of Anthropology of the
University of Alaska Fairbanks, with the additional support of Makivik
Corporation, invite Ph.D. students to submit their applications to
IPSSAS seminar 2006, under the theme of "Self-Governance in Arctic
Societies: Contemporary Dynamics and Trends," to be held in Kuujjuaq,
Nunavik, Province of Quebec, Canada, from 22 May to 2 June 2006.

In addition to sharing and discussing collectively their own research
topics and experiences in the domains of the history, culture and
language of Arctic societies, participants will have the unique chance
to gain new knowledge through exchanges with invited Faculty,
presentations and meetings with local guests from Nunavik and
neighboring regions, as well as visits of local facilities and
landmarks.

Ph.D. students (with potential openings for senior M.A. students)
involved in research on Arctic societies are eligible to apply.

Prospective candidates to the IPSSAS Seminar 2006 are asked to follow
the rules for application posted on the IPSSAS Website. Due to the high
costs involved in the organization of such a seminar and of the limited
amount of funding available, participants will be asked to contribute to
most of their expenditures, be it for registration, travel or
accommodation.
