The 9th Circumpolar Remote Sensing Symposium will be held in Seward,
Alaska from 15-18 May 2006. This conference deals specifically with
remote sensing applications in the polar environments, both Arctic and
Antarctic. It will provide an international forum for the discussion of
work currently being carried out in the circumpolar regions of the world
in the following topic areas:
- Environmental monitoring
- Wildlife management and habitat enhancement
- Arctic vegetation mapping
- Land and water management and assessment
- Pollution detection and monitoring
- Snow and ice studies
- Climatology
- Oceanography
- Geology
- Mineral and oil and gas exploration
- Archaeology
- Geographic Information System and web based portals
- Mapping, monitoring, or assessment of boreal processes that have
direct influence on arctic processes

This symposium will be of interest to scientists, scholars, and industry
and government professionals involved in renewable and non-renewable
resource management in both polar environments. The symposium will
provide a forum for the exchange of current applied international
research, the presentation of new technology, and the advancement of
internal co-operation in the circumpolar regions of the world. It will
also serve as an excellent way to report on progress leading to studies
that are of particular interest to International Polar Year activities
that will be conducted in 2007-2008.
