Scientists, researchers, outreach specialists, educators, fund managers,
and representatives of polar organizations are invited to attend a
workshop to plan and coordinate International Polar Year outreach
efforts.

The workshop will be held in Boulder, Colorado, on 20-22 July 2005 and
is sponsored by the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research of the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA Research), the
Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at
the University of Colorado, and the National Snow and Ice Data Center
(NSIDC), a specialized unit within CIRES.

To involve interested parties beyond the geophysical sciences and reach
wider audiences, IPY organizers are encouraging activities in the social
sciences and in outreach and education. In an effort to avoid
duplication, promote partnering, increase effectiveness, and stretch
scarce funds, this workshop aims to foster polar understanding and
appreciation for all IPY interests, and to develop a proposed timeline
and specific deliverables, intended to integrate science with education
and communication.
