A Ph.D. Assistantship is available to study factors affecting spatial
and temporal variability in productivity and nutrient quality of
graminoid communities surrounding large lake ecosystems in northern
Alaska. A pilot field season is planned for June 2005, and academic
training beginning September 2005. This project is part of a larger,
multi-disciplinary effort led by Dr. Joel Schmutz, Alaska Science
Center, USGS, Anchorage, to understand the physical and ecological
determinants of the distribution of molting geese in this area. Review
of applications will begin immediately until a suitable candidate is
found. Please send (e-mail preferred) a cover letter of interest,
resume, and copies or information regarding GRE scores and transcripts
