Selendang Ayu and the Future of Shipping Safety
Tuesday, 29 March 2005
1-4 p.m.
Loussac Library / Wilda Marston Theater
Anchorage, Alaska

On 8 December 2004, the freighter Selendang Ayu grounded near Unalaska
Island in Alaska's Aleutian Islands. Rough seas pounded the vessel and
the vessel broke in two. Six crew were lost, and the vessel's cargo and
most of its fuel were spilled into the marine environment.

In a public forum on Tuesday, 29 March 2005, the State of Alaska, U.S.
Coast Guard, and the AK Maritime National Wildlife Refuge will give an
overview of what has transpired to date regarding the Selendang Ayu
incident and what is planned for this spring/summer (wreck removal,
beach cleanup, NRDA, etc.).

The forum will also include industry, government, and audience
discussion of potential measures to reduce risk and improve the safety
of merchant shipping through the Aleutians/southern Bering Sea.

This public forum is free of charge.
