The Norwegian Polar Institute (NPI) is seeking applications for a
full-time permanent research position. Potential candidates must have a
Ph.D. (or equivalent experience/education) with a background in seabird
population biology and ecology. Expertise in statistical analyses, the
ability to publish in high-quality international scientific journals,
and the capacity to secure research grants must be documented. The
successful candidate should be able to work in multidisciplinary
research groups and have practical experience in polar regions.

The NPI seeks a person who will be responsible for performing a
field-based research programme in the Arctic and Antarctica, relevant to
the Institute's mandate. The job includes planning the research
programme; writing grant applications to help support the work
financially; conducting research in the field; analyzing the resulting
data; reporting results to the Institute's sea-bird data-bases; and
doing basic reporting and administration of the research programme. The
research activities are expected to result in an active publication
record in journals of high international quality (peer-reviewed). The
successful candidate is expected to contribute actively to the
Institute's monitoring programmes and management related tasks.

The workplace will be at NPI headquarters in Tromso with the possibility
for extended periods of placement at the NPI office in Longyearbyen,
Svalbard.
