The Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences at Rutgers University
invites applications for a post-doctoral position to conduct research in
satellite remote sensing of the Arctic climate system. The successful
candidate will participate in a NASA-funded project to investigate the
Arctic energy budget using a combination of modern satellite sensors,
particularly sounders such as ATOVS and AMSU. The work involves adapting
existing retrieval algorithms for past sensors (HIRS and MSU) to the new
instruments, validating their products in polar conditions, and using
retrieved parameters to investigate the behavior of the Arctic system.
The applicant will join an active, productive group of researchers and
students studying various components of the Arctic energy budget,
relationships among those components, and manifestations of rapid change
in recent decades.
Experience with passive atmospheric remote sensing is required, as is
expertise in computer programming. Knowledge of cloud-radiation
interactions and polar meteorology is desirable. Opportunities exist for
informal supervision of students, teaching, and other related areas. The
applicant should have good written and verbal communication skills.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and accomplishments. The
initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of renewal
for a second year depending on the candidate's performance. This
position is available immediately and will remain open until filled.
