Your input is being solicited for the Barrow Science Support Facility,
in Barrow, Alaska. The Barrow Science Support Facility design will be
"locked down" this fall. This Design Forum is an opportunity for you to
help ensure that your current and anticipated future facility needs are
accommodated in this new facility. Your input is vitally important
during this planning phase, in order to provide the architects with a
clear vision on how best to proceed in support of science.
The facility will be located at UIC-NARL, just north of Barrow, and it
is anticipated to have up to 20 modern laboratories and lodging for
about 50 visiting researchers. It will have a separate warehouse. Please
be aware that the term "facility" is broad, and includes "FF&E"
(fittings, furnishings, and equipment), thus it is appropriate that you
identify major equipment needs if the equipment will serve multiple
researchers over time.
Please remember to make your comments concise for easy understanding by
our architects. The most useful comments might start by identifying your
estimation of the "highest" construction priorities (for instance
"general science labs and community spaces") and the "lowest" (for
instance "radionuclide-capable labs").
Please be aware that the first phase of construction is liable to
include 8,000 to 12,000 total square feet of space of a projected 80,000
square feet upon project completion. If you have priorities for the
first phase of construction, you should identify them.
The design and construction of this project is being managed by BTS
Professional Services, LLC. This project is being funded by federal
grants administered through NOAA.
