OVERVIEW
Applications are invited for a post-doc position to join a research
group of environmental organic chemists and isotope geochemists. The
position will offer development and application of state of the art
analytical techniques for compound-specific isotope analysis (CSIA),
including accelerated solvent extraction (ASE), gel permeation
chromatography (GPC), high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC),
preparative capillary gas chromatography (PCGC), and GC high-resolution
mass spectrometry (GCHRMS). The compound-specific analysis of stable
chlorine isotopes (d37Cl) and the natural radiocarbon content (D14C)
will make use of thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS) and
accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) in close collaboration with MS
specialists.

Potential application areas include:
- Investigating the balance between fossil fuel vs. biomass burning as
sources of PAHs to the environment (D14C-PAHs)

  • Investigating climate-warming induced remobilization of soil organic
matter in the Siberian Arctic along a west-east transect of the Siberian
shelf (D14C of vascular plant biomarkers)

  • Investigating the balance between natural and anthropogenic sources of
contaminant-like organohalogen substances in the environment (d37Cl-OHS
    and D14C-OHS)

QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. degree with a proven publication record in environmental organic
chemistry, organic geochemistry, analytical chemistry, or related areas.
Thorough experience with HPLC and GCMS is required.
