Abstract submission deadline EXTENDED to 1 August 2003
Early registration deadline is 9 August 2003

The deadline for submission of abstracts for the Arctic Chapter AAAS
Meeting has been extended to August 1. Early registration ends August 9.
The meeting will be held in Fairbanks at the Westmark Hotel during
September 22-24, with a reception on September 21. This year's theme,
inspired by the magnitude 7.9 earthquake on the Denali Fault, is
"Extreme Events: Understanding Perturbations to the Physical and
Biological Environment". Special talks and sessions will cover a broad
range of the "unexpected" in the Arctic, from earthquakes and eruptions
to oil spills, fires, floods, nuclear events, and rapid changes
associated with global warming. Crises will also be considered from an
anthropological perspective. A concluding session will discuss how
science should inform public policy for disaster mitigation.
