Qualifications: A Ph.D. in atmospheric science/meteorology, applied
physics or physics is desired, though a M.S. level scientist with
appropriate experience may be considered.

Terms Of Employment: This is a term position, with an initial
appointment of 3 years, the second and third year contingent on
satisfactory performance and availability of funding. Possibility exists
for reappointment after the initial three-year period. The successful
candidate will work as a Research Associate in the Alaska Experimental
Forecast Facility (AEFF) at the University of Alaska Anchorage in a
position funded by the University of Alaska Coastal Marine Institute.
The primary responsibility of the RA is to work with AEFF staff on the
development of a mesoscale modeling capability for the Cook Inlet region
of Alaska using RAMS. A primary objective of the project is to
understand and document the various low-level wind regimes and phenomena
that occur in the study region, using the mesoscale model as an
investigative tool.

The individual selected will have knowledge of several of the areas
encompassing mesoscale modeling and mesoscale dynamics. Working
knowledge of, and interest in, synoptic meteorology is important and
previous experience with RAMS or other mesoscale models is considered an
asset. Candidates with experience with Fortran, C, and Perl programming
languages and UNIX/LINUX will be given preference.
