VECO Polar Resources Offers Field Safety Training

In February 2001, VECO Polar Resources (VPR) offered a five-day Field
Safety Training course to NSF-funded researchers in Fairbanks. Due to
the overwhelming positive feedback we received regarding this course we
are pleased to continue this program.

VECO Polar Resources is hosting a Field Safety Training course at the
University of Massachusetts, Amherst on 12-15 March 2002. The 4-day
course will be facilitated by LTR Training Systems
(http://www.survivaltraining.com) and will include two days of
wilderness medicine training, one day of helicopter/bear safety
training, and one day of field skills specific to working in tundra
areas.

This course is sponsored through VECO Polar Resources by the National
Science Foundation and is open to 25 NSF-funded arctic researchers. This
includes Principal Investigators, Graduate Students, Research
Assistants, and Undergraduate Field Assistants. The course will be free
of charge for all qualified researchers. For participants outside of the
UMASS local area travel assistance/per diem is available.

Interested Principal Investigators should send an e-mail message to
jill.ferris [at] veco.com with the following information:

Name
Affiliation
Email
NSF Proposal Number
Names of those you would like to have attend

Please note that VECO Polar Resources will also be sponsoring a series
of 1-day helicopter/bear safety courses at Toolik Field Station in June
2002. More information on that will be made available in the near future.
