Polar Field Service (PFS) headquarters in Littleton, Colorado.

This conference brings together polar scientists, engineers, and
technology developers in a forum to exchange information, ideas, and
solutions on deploying research systems in polar environments. Topics
include instrumentation, facilities, unmanned autonomous vehicles,
communications, power systems, traverses, and buoys.

Abstracts are being accepted for oral and poster presentations.

    46th Annual International Arctic Workshop
    2-3 April 2016
    Boulder, Colorado

Organizers of the 46th Annual International Arctic Workshop announce a
call for abstracts. The meeting will take place on 2-3 April 2016 in
Boulder, Colorado.

The theme of the workshop is "Arctic's New Normal- shifting
environmental baselines over decades to millennia and comparisons with
the Antarctic." The Arctic Workshop is open to all interested in
high-latitude environments including the past, present, and future.

Participants should consider contributing to the optional workshop theme
by tying presentations to changing environmental conditions in the
Arctic. Also encouraged are presentations documenting changes in and
around Antarctica and comparing responses between the two polar regions.

Registration and abstract submission deadline: 18 March 2016.

  1. Call for Abstracts
    24th International Diatom Symposium
    21-26 August 2016
    Quebec, Canada

The organizers of the 24th International Diatom Symposium (IDS2016)
announce registration and a call for abstracts. IDS2016 will take place
21-26 August 2016 in Quebec, Canada.

The organizers seek to bring together interdisciplinary
participation from experts from all fields of research on modern and
fossil diatoms (both from marine and freshwater systems), including
molecular, physiological, evolutionary, ecological, biogeographic,
paleoecological, biomonitoring, systematic/taxonomic, forensic and
other aspects of research on diatoms. Special sessions and workshops are
planned both on diatom taxonomy and on other topics of interest to
non-specialists in diatoms who can use the results of diatom research
as a tool in a more general taxonomic, ecological, and
paleoclimatological context.

Abstract submission deadline: 1 May 2016

Early registration deadline: 15 April 2016

Regular registration deadline: 1 July 2016

Subglacial Access Drilling: IDPO Science Planning Workshop
    22-23 May 2016
    Herndon, Virginia

The U.S. Ice Drilling Program Office (IDPO) announces a change of date
for the 2016 Science Planning Workshop. This workshop was originally
scheduled for January 2016 but was postponed and has been rescheduled to
22-23 May 2016 in Herndon, Virginia.

The goal of this workshop is to form consensus within the U.S.
science community on scientific goals, potential drilling
targets, and proposed dates and timelines for major science
projects that will require subglacial access drilling over the
coming decade, possibly in collaboration with international
partners. This information will be used in the 2016-2026 update
of the IDPO Long Range Science Plan, which is the foundation for
identifying and developing appropriate drilling technologies for
use in larger projects defined by the U.S. science community.

All interested scientists who will be seeking science funding from a
U.S. agency are encouraged to participate, including, but not limited
to, those from the fields of glaciology, paleoclimatology, glacial
geology, biology, and earth science.
