The University of Silesia's Centre for Polar Studies is seeking a
Postdoctoral researcher in the areas of glaciology and modeling. The
position is based in Sosnowiec, Poland.
The position requires the following duties:
-Modelling the dynamics of the frontal zone of tidewater glaciers and
the interactions of the glacier with the ocean (MATLAB, Fortran, C++);
-Developing the model of glacier calving and performing validation of
the model on the basis of observational data;
-Collaboration with the team on the issues concerning glaciological
modelling; and
-Preparation of a grant application in international cooperation and to
publish at least two publications within the duration of the contract.
Application is open to scientists who have a doctoral degree in Earth
Sciences or other related sciences, obtained abroad, not earlier than in
2013, on the basis of the dissertation or scientific achievements
published in English.
Additionally, the candidate must have:
-Suitable scientific attainments in the field of glaciology
and numerical modelling of glaciers,
-Documented active participation in international conferences
and in research projects,
-Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
confirmed by relevant certificates, and
-Basic experience in field studies of glaciers would be an
advantage.
The candidate will be participate in teaching (Earth Sciences) in
English of at least 110 hours per academic year, and carry out
scientific research and organizational work. The total working
time will be an average of 40 hours per week.

candidate will be employed by the Rector, at the request of the Dean and
Head of the Centre for Polar Studies, approved by the Council of the
Faculty of Earth Sciences.
The employment will have the character of a contract for a specified
period of time. The expected period of employment is from 1 September
2016 to 31 December 2018.

Applications are being accepted for the position of Scientific
Programmer Analyst in the area of Earth Sciences and Remote Sensing at
Bostons University. This position is full time based in Boston,
Massachusetts.
The successful candidate will lead the technical aspects related to
consulting, training, scientific application package support, and the
development, porting, and optimization of research-computing software in
the Department of Earth & Environment. The successful candidate will
serve as the primary support contact for faculty and graduate students
on complex projects and issues that require in-depth knowledge of the
multiple technical areas within the University's Research Computing
Services Group as well as the core computational research tools used by
the Department of Earth & Environment. The successful candidate will
work directly with faculty and other academic stakeholders to assess
needs and recommend solutions as a representative of the Research
Computing team. They will also act as primary liaison between faculty,
staff, and students in Earth & Environment and staff at Research
Computing Services and reside in the Department of Earth & Environment.
The successful candidate should have a B.A./B.S., but a Masters is
preferred with 5 to 8 years of relevant experience. They should also
have strong analytical skills with an ability to manage multiple
projects and deliverables. Extensive knowledge of numerical methods,
computational methodologies, and math/statistical software packages
(Python, MATLAB, R) is essential. The candidate should also have
experience with computational workflows and tools (e.g. ENVI/ARCGIS,
QGIS/GRASS) related to Earth & Environment, including Energy &
Environmental science, Geographical Sciences, Biogeosciences, and
Geology/Geophysics/Geochemistry. Fluency in multiple programming
languages, using and scripting Linux, and ability to quickly learn new
programming languages and tools as required and experience with
computing on large-scale clusters and optimizing/parallelizing code
desired.

- Postdoctoral Position Available

Applications are being accepted for a postdoctoral position in
glaciology at the Centro de Estudios Cientificos (CECs). The position
will have a fixed term of 2 years with possibility of contract renewal.
The position is based in Valdivia, Chile.
The subjects presently covered at CECs include remote sensing,
geophysical methods applied to snow and ice, glaciochemistry, geodetic
methods in glaciology and glacial geomorphology, and subglacial lake
exploration. Field work is conducted in the Andean glaciers, especially
in Patagonia, and the inner plateau of West Antarctica. Successful
candidates are expected to take part in research projects as well as
consulting activities.
