The American Geophysical Union (AGU) is currently accepting abstract
submissions for the 2017 Fall Meeting. The meeting will be held 11-15
December 2017 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The early abstract deadline is 11:59 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time,
Wednesday, 26 July 2017. The final abstract submission deadline for all
sessions is 11:59 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Wednesday, 2 August

Conveners of the following two sessions invite abstract submissions:
- SESSION 25801: Remote Sensing of Polar Permafrost
Conveners: Sabine Christine Baumann and Reginald R. Muskett.
Remote sensing is an essential tool to gain more information on larger
scales compared to point information from fieldwork. Until now, only
indicators of permafrost are monitored from space and not the permafrost
itself. Nevertheless, using these indicators helps a lot to improve our
knowledge about permafrost and permafrost development. The aim of this
session is to show the broad range of remote sensing applications on
polar permafrost. Contributions on recent and upcoming advances in
satellite remote sensing regarding different sensors or observation
techniques are invited. As the application of remote sensing on
permafrost is quite a new field, organizers want to show the potential
of this technique for permafrost monitoring and the broad range of
studies. Therefore, presentations on multi-platform data as well as
studies using ground validation data are also encouraged.

- SESSION 24120: Links Between Arctic Cloud Processes and their
Environment
Conveners: Patrick C. Taylor, Lauren M. Zamora, and Linette Boisvert.
This session is co-organized with Atmospheric Sciences and Cyrosphere
and is cross-listed under "Cryosphere."
By affecting radiative energy flows, clouds exert a significant
influence on Arctic sea and land ice, ocean biogeochemistry, and
large-scale atmospheric dynamics. Despite many advances in understanding
Arctic clouds over recent years, the sensitivity of these clouds to
environmental factors, such as dynamic processes and aerosol inputs,
remains a leading uncertainty in projections of Arctic climate change. A
detailed process-level understanding of Arctic cloud processes and their
interactions with their environment is needed to improve Arctic climate
projections. Session organizers invite studies that link Arctic clouds
and their variability with the full range of relevant meteorological and
microphysical processes as well as discussion of interactions with the
surface (land, ocean, or ice). Contributions based on a variety of
methodologies, including numerical models and satellite, ground-based,
and field campaign measurements are welcome.
