The Climate Dynamics section at the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) invite applications for a Postdoctoral researcher in high-resolution climate modelling with an Arctic focus. This full-time three-year position will be located in Bremerhaven, Germany.
The successful candidate will work with leading European climate scientists on improving the representation of key process in the Arctic in global climate models as part of the Advanced Prediction in Polar regions and beyond: modelling, observing system design and LInkages associated with a Changing Arctic climaTE (APPLICATE) project. This position will also work to determine the influence of enhanced models on the predictive skill and the response to anthropogenic forcing and improve the representation of Arctic processes in the AWI climate model, the first model that employs a sea ice-ocean model formulated on unstructured meshes.
Position requirement include a PhD in meteorology, oceanography, climate science, physics, or mathematics. Demonstrated skill and proficiency in Fortran, fluency in English, experience running and analyzing complex models of the coupled climate system or their subcomponents, and a proven record in publishing and securing funding are advantageous.
