The Physical Oceanography Department at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) invites applications for position of Research Scientist. This full-time exempt tenure-track position will be located at WHOI in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.

The successful candidate will be hired at the Assistant Scientist level, with exceptional candidates considered at the levels of Associate Scientist without Tenure, Associate Scientist with Tenure, or Senior Scientist. 

Applicants should have a doctoral degree, postdoctoral experience, and a record of scientific research publications in scholarly journals. Scientific staff members are expected to develop independent, externally-funded, and internationally-recognized research programs. This position will also have the option of advising graduate students and teaching courses through the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)/WHOI Joint Program (http://mit.whoi.edu/) in Oceanography and Oceanographic Engineering.

Applicants with expertise in the following areas are encouraged to apply:

  • Coastal dynamics,
  • High-latitude processes,
  • Climate variability, and
  • Submesoscale phenomena and mixing.

Candidates with expertise in theoretical/dynamical approaches are particularly encouraged to apply.
