The National Science Foundation (NSF) is seeking a qualified candidate for an Antarctic Organisms and Ecosystems (AOE) Program Director within its Office of Polar Programs’ (OPP) Antarctic Sciences Section. This position will be located at NSF’s headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia.

Candidates for either permanent or temporary appointments will be considered.

The AOE Program Director manages a proposal-driven grants program, and oversees a research portfolio, directed at all levels of biologically related organization from molecular, cellular, and organismal, to communities, ecosystems, and global processes. The Program Director has the opportunity to shape the direction of the program through interactions with the research community, related research programs within the section, other NSF divisions, and organizations external to NSF.

NOTE: Deployment as NSF Science Representative in Antarctica for periods of several weeks each year is an essential requirement for this position. This requires that the program officer be cleared medically for remote deployment.

Candidates must have a PhD in a biological science plus after award of the PhD, six or more years of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position.

Applicants do not have to have had prior Antarctic section or polar experience to be considered but must have demonstrated experience leading an active biological research portfolio. Applications will be accepted from all U.S. citizens who meet citizenship and eligibility requirements.

Application deadline: 27 April 2020
