Bio

Gerald “J.J.” Frost is an ecologist with a multidisciplinary research background focused on Arctic tundra and boreal forest ecosystems. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1999, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Science at the University of Virginia in 2013. J.J. has accumulated over twenty years of field experience in Alaska and northwestern Siberia. His recent work has focused on tundra vegetation dynamics, interactions and feedbacks between vegetation and permafrost, landscape change detection, and long-term monitoring of vegetation and permafrost. J.J.’s research integrates field measurements with a variety of modern and historical remote-sensing datasets to elucidate current ecosystem conditions and long-term change.

J.J. lives in Fairbanks, Alaska where he is a senior scientist with ABR (Alaska Biological Research), Inc.
