Her first experience with NOAA was as a 2006 NOAA Hollings Scholar, completing her summer internship at the Mauna Loa Observatory in Hilo, HI. She interned at NASA Langley during the summer of 2008, and in late summer of 2008 moved to Fairbanks, Alaska to start work on her master's degree. In 2009 she participated in a field school in Svalbard, Norway focused on international and interdisciplinary polar science, and also participated in the 2009 NABOS research cruise in the Russian Arctic where she assisted with sea ice observations and ocean profiles. Becki graduated with a master's degree in atmospheric science with a focus on oceanography and the Arctic from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2010.

Becki started her career in the NWS as an oceanographer at the National Tsunami Warning Center where she worked as a watchstander and worked with the Alaska Tsunami Forecast Model. In late 2011 a position opened at the NWS Alaska Sea Ice Program (ASIP), and her passion for the Arctic led her to pursue a position as a sea ice analyst on the team. During her time with the program she had the unique opportunity to work with very diverse marine user groups. Becki took on the Sea Ice Program Lead position in 2014. During her time as Program Lead she saw the program through the transition from 5 day/week to 7 day/week operations, brought the program up to WMO standard sea ice coding, and expanded the decision support services work for the ASIP. She accepted a Regional Program Manager position at NWS Alaska Region Headquarters in December of 2016, where she currently supports the Alaska Sea Ice Program, the Marine Program, and the Tsunami Program, in addition to supporting efforts involving ecological forecasting, coastal inundation/erosion, and the Arctic.
